OVERVIEW
At the Certified Counter Terrorism Board, we have developed and maintained a voluntary and comprehensive certification scheme that is recognized as the standard of excellence for competent counter terrorism professionals. It has been designed by practitioners, for practitioners. This is critical, as it is only through understanding the threat of terrorism globally, having the ability to identify the various threats and modus operandi of the terrorist, and possessing the ability to assess the risk and to implement the necessary processes and technological protective measures, that we have the ability to prepare and respond to terrorist acts efficiently and effectively.Why earn the CCTP certificate?
The CCTP certification provides demonstrable proof of knowledge, skills and experience in key areas for the purposes of mitigating the threat of terrorism, and by providing proactive measures to reduce the vulnerability of individuals and property to terrorist acts. Earning a CCTP demonstrates your competency in 4 main domains:- Terrorism fundamentals
- Threat Identification
- Prevention and mitigation of the threat
- Preparedness and response to terrorist act
Who is CCTP certificate intended for?
This comprehensive program is designed for any professional who has to deal with threats of terrorism, including:- Law enforcement, military and security professionals
- Corporate security professionals for small and medium-sized enterprises and multi-national corporations
- Risk and security consultants who provide consulting services for critical assets, sporting events, government buildings, public infrastructure, etc.
- Public transportation security professionals involved in the aviation security for airlines and airports
- Maritime security and ground transportation
- Law enforcement officers from police units, customs, immigration, border control, counter terrorism units, intelligence units, patrolling units, etc.
- Military officers from intelligence units, counter terrorism units, military police, infantry brigades, etc.
- Private security companies who deal with asset protection, VIP protection, etc.
Experience
- Relevant proven experience in the field of security, law enforcement or military with at least eight years in management role and/or responsibility
Declaration
- The participant is expected to not have any criminal records and must declare this status during the application process. Professional References
- The participant must submit two professional references who have personal knowledge of, and can validate your security experience, character, and good standing.
Examination
- CCTP Candidates will be required to take an examination which will test their skill and knowledge. A minimum of 70% pass mark must be achieved to qualify for the Certified Counter Terrorism Practitioner.
CCTP Exams are proctored by trained and certificated examiners, all of whom are qualified and experienced counter-terrorism, homeland security, and/or defense experts. Examiners work within a clearly defined environment and criteria, and are subject to extensive and detailed quality control procedures.
After requirements are fulfilled, the exam can be prepared for in 2 ways:
Self-study: In accordance with the exam blueprint you will be able to self-study for the exam. To help you with preparation, we offer the CCTP Field Guide in our shop.
Exam Preparatory course: CTCB offers exam preparation courses online at ondemand.ctcboard.org or in classroom setup together with certified training centers around the world. Please contact us for more details to find out whether a course is available in your region.
FEES: All fees are non-refundable and non-transferable, with the exception of what is allowed by procedures contained in the CCTP Handbook.
All fees are in US dollars.
- Application Fee: $50
- CCTP Examination (includes 2 years certification fees): $700
CCTP Board is responsible for establishing all certification fees. The Board reserves the right to modify fees, as needed, to maintain the financial security of the program.
Policies and Procedures for CCTP Exam
Exam Procedures
- After passing the eligibility criteria, each participant will be given access to an online examination with a total of 50 questions where 45 questions are multiple choice and 5 are true/false questions. Each question will be valued at 2 points.
- Before the examination starts, participants will need to provide an Identification Document and must ensure that the audio and visual system (such as Skype)is set up.
- Audio and Video MUST BE open throughout the examination process.
- Participants will be given one hour to answer all questions, review answers, and obtain clarification from an invigilator who will be present during the examination process.
- Once the time limit is reached, the system will automatically complete the examination and the participant will be notified via email of the results within 3 working days. Certificates will be mailed to the address provided.
RE-CERTIFICATION
The purpose of the CCTP Recertification is to ensure that professionals who have obtained the CCTP Certification enhance their skills and knowledge beyond the minimum competency. Regular recertification occurs through the documentation of (and confirmation, when audited) the required continuing educational activities within the two-year period following successful passing of a CCTP Certification Exam.
Granting Certification
The period of validity of the CCTP Certificate shall not exceed two (2) years. The certificate may be renewed for further periods as the result of a re-evaluation. The specified period of validity of a certificate may be extended for a single exceptional extension of up to six (6) months in order to permit re-evaluation to be completed.
Maintaining Certification
All CCTP are required to submit an application for recertification every two years. Each practitioner must demonstrate a significant and measurable contribution to the security industry to maintain their certification. Refer to theCCTP Handbook for more details.
CCTP and CPE Requirements
Every holder of the CCTP Certification must obtain no less than 20 CPE points during each two-year cycle for each CCTP Certification. These CPE points must be earned and reported within 30 calendar days of the anniversary of the original date of certification.

Education + Experience
- A minimum of a related university bachelor degree, in Security Studies, Homeland Security Studies, Terrorism or Counter Terrorism Studies, Intelligence Studies, and
- Relevant proven experience in the field of security, law enforcement or military with at least eight years in management role and/or responsibility
Age
- Minimum age of 28 years.
