What is the CPSC Certification Scheme?
The Counter Terrorism Certification Board has established and maintains a voluntary and comprehensive certification scheme -- Certified Physical Security Consultant (CPSC) that is recognized as the standard of excellence for competent security consultants. It has been designed by consultants, for consultants. This is critical, as it is only through understanding the threat of terrorism globally, having the ability to identify the various threats and modus operandi of the terrorist, and possessing the ability to assess the risk and to implement the necessary processes and technological protective measures, that we have the ability to prepare and respond to terrorist acts efficiently and effectively.
Why earn the CPSC certificate?
The CPSC Credential provides demonstrable proof of knowledge, skills and experience of defined areas within the scope of practice for the Physical Security Consultant. Physical Security Consultants provide advice on security measures in order to reduce threats, vulnerabilities, and consequences for individuals and properties from terrorist and criminal acts. The CPSC Credential is designed for security professionals who are actively consulting and who supervise the implementation of security measures as part of their organizational duties or as a service to clients.
Earning a CPSC Credential will demonstrate your competency as a Consultant in 4 main domains:
- Assessments & Audits
- Physical Security Planning and Design of Security Solutions
- Project Implementation
- Managing the Security Plan’s Effectiveness.
Who is the CPSC certificate intended for?
- Private Physical Security Consultants
- Security professionals who are in charge of physical security planning and implementation
- Government officers responsible for physical security policies and planning
- Professionals from training institutes and other agencies responsible for knowledge dissemination on physical security
- Aviation and maritime security professionals who actively consult and implement physical security measures
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
- Three years of work experience as a Security Consultant as part of, or in full capacity as part of the organization for private market and/or governmental agencies.
- Provision of consultancy services to clients on various security issues including: security management, security policies and procedures, security systems and physical means, security audits and risk assessments, etc.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in security-related field from an accredited institution of higher education
OR
- Security management training certification from recognized national security agency or certificated training academy
OR
- Equivalent proven experience of 5 years in Physical security consultancy
AND
- Professional certifications like: ASIS CPP, PSP, APP, CCTP, CSyP, CSC, RSES, SABRE or equivalent.
DECLARATION
- The participant is expected to have no criminal records and would have to declare this status during the application process.
PROFESSIONAL REFERENCES
- The participant must submit 2 professional references who have personal knowledge of and can validate the candidate’s security experience, character and good standing.
WORK REFERENCE
- Candidate must submit 2 project references reports to demonstrate abilities. This includes submitting TVRA project, Security design project, and turnkey project. All reports must be submitted without mention of client names and details.
EXAMINATION
- CPSC candidates will be required to take an examination which will test their skill and knowledge. A minimum of 70% pass mark must be achieved to qualify for the Certified Physical Security Consultant certificate.
Self-study: In accordance with the exam blue print you able to self-study using the list of guides and exam reference materials.
Exam Preparatory course: CPSC, together with certified training centers around the world, conduct exam preparation courses in classroom setups. Please contact us for more details to find out whether a course is available in your region.
FEES: All fees are non-refundable and non-transferable, with the exception of what is allowed by procedures contained in the CPSC Handbook.

Policies and Procedures for CPSC Exam
CPSC Exam Procedures
- After passing the eligibility criteria, each participant will be given access to an online examination with a total of 100 multiple choice questions. Before an exam starts, participants will need to provide Identification Document and ensure that an audio and visual system (such as Skype) is set up.
- Audio and Video MUST BE open throughout the examination process. Participants will be given two hours to answer all questions, review answers, and obtain clarification from an invigilator who will be present during the examination process.
- Once the time limit is reached, the system will automatically complete the examination and the participant will be notified of the results via email within 3 working days. Certificates will be mailed to the address provided.
Granting Certification
The period of validity of the CPSC Certificate shall not exceed two (2) years. The certificate may be renewed for further periods as the result of a re-evaluation. The specified period of validity of a certificate may be extended for a single exceptional extension of up to six (6) months in order to permit re-evaluation to be completed.Maintaining Certification
All CPSC certificate holders are required to submit an application for recertification every two years. Each practitioner must demonstrate a significant and measurable contribution to the security industry to maintain their certification.CPSC and CPE Requirements
Every holder of the CPSC Certification must obtain no less than 20 CPE points during each two- year cycle for each CPSC Certification. These CPE points must be earned and reported within 30 calendar days of the anniversary of the original date of certification. CPSC Exams are proctored by trained and certificated examiners, all of whom are qualified and experienced counter terrorism, homeland security, and/or defense experts. Examiners work within a clearly defined environment and criteria, and are subject to extensive and detailed quality control procedures.

The purpose of the CPSC Recertification is to ensure that professionals who have obtained the CPSC Certification enhance their skills and knowledge beyond the minimum competency.
Regular recertification occurs through the documentation of (and confirmation, when audited) the required continuing educational activities within the two-year period following successful passing of a CPSC Certification Exam.
